Dental anxiety is real, common, and nothing to be embarrassed about. Maybe a past experience left a mark. Maybe it's the sounds, the needles, or just not knowing what's coming. Whatever the reason, avoiding the dentist tends to make small problems bigger — and we'd love to help you break that cycle gently.
Comfort starts before any treatment
The first thing we do is slow down. Dr. Sandler takes time to understand what makes you uneasy, explains everything in plain language, and agrees on a signal you can use to pause at any moment. For many patients, simply feeling in control is half the battle.
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
For an extra layer of calm, nitrous oxide is a safe, time-tested option. You breathe it through a small mask and feel a gentle, floaty relaxation settle in within minutes. You stay awake and aware the whole time, and it wears off almost as quickly as it started — so you can usually drive yourself home.
Additional sedation options
For longer procedures or higher anxiety, we'll discuss deeper sedation approaches and what each involves. Dr. Sandler reviews your health history first and recommends the mildest option that keeps you comfortable — never more than you need.
You set the pace
There's no judgment here, and no rushing. If it's been years — even decades — since your last visit, that's exactly the kind of patient we're here for.
Tell us what worries you when you book, or call (973) 857-1326 and we'll talk it through.
